1. Browse a theme first
- Search the main gallery by name, color, or mood.
- Narrow the list with Focus, Clock, and Ambient categories.
- Open a card to see the real clock and motion.
- Choose Run fullscreen to use it without creating a project.
2. Create your own screen
- Choose Create your screen or Create with this theme to open Studio.
- Add images, GIFs, video, text, clocks, and optional local audio.
- Static images no longer have a separate 10-image cap; they share the 20-element total with text, clocks, and media.
- Drag the corners or edges of an image, GIF, or video selection frame to resize width and height freely. Moving an object preserves the distance between the grabbed point and its center.
- Choose Use as background for a GIF or video to fill the canvas, move it to the back, and lock it. Unlock the layer to adjust it again.
- Set video and audio volume and loop points, then check the preview.
3. Choose a background and ratio
- Fill the background with a palette color or any custom color.
- Set two colors and an angle for a gradient.
- Use cover, contain with a blurred background fill, or original size for a background image.
- Image themes detect the display ratio and compensate for 16:10 cropping. Dedicated 21:9 or 4:3 artwork is selected automatically when available; otherwise the full original is combined with a blurred background fill.
- Choose 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, 4:3, or match the current display.
4. Fullscreen and keep-awake
Fullscreen uses the browser Fullscreen API and must start from a user click. While fullscreen is active, ScreenWisp requests Screen Wake Lock to reduce automatic sleep.
Operating-system power policy can still turn the screen off. Check brightness and power use for long sessions, and prefer themes with fewer fixed bright elements on OLED displays.
5. Save and back up
- By default, changes save automatically to a local project in the current browser.
- In supported Edge and Chrome versions, choose Use folder storage in My screensavers to switch to a device folder you approve. Existing browser projects are copied on first connection.
- Project folders use the screen name; duplicate names receive (2), (3). The stable project ID remains inside manifest.json and project.json, alongside preview.webp and assets. Refreshing safely migrates existing ID-named folders to the readable layout.
- After copying a project folder from elsewhere, return to the page and choose Refresh folder.
- Large media in folder storage uses available disk space instead of the browser site quota, but actual playback size and format still depend on the browser, operating system, and memory. The GIF import limit still applies.
- Export important projects as .ambientpack files and keep them separately. Large video can still be subject to a separate in-memory backup safety ceiling.
- Firefox and other browsers without folder access continue to use browser storage and .ambientpack transfer.
6. Media and privacy
Images, GIFs, video, and audio are processed inside the browser or the folder you explicitly approve rather than uploaded to a server. ScreenWisp does not arbitrarily read other device folders. Do not attach personal media or project backups to a support request.
Clearing browser site data can remove browser projects and the remembered folder connection, but it does not automatically delete files in the selected folder. Disconnect folder storage on a shared computer and confirm your backups.
7. Troubleshooting
- Before refreshing, check that Studio shows the project as saved.
- For browser storage, confirm the same origin and browser profile.
- For folder storage, reconnect the same folder and choose Refresh folder.
- Review browser permissions for site storage, folder read/write access, fullscreen, and screen wake.
- Use operating-system reduced motion or Studio’s Eco quality mode if motion is uncomfortable.
- If the issue remains, send support the reproduction steps and browser details with personal data removed.
